Video over IP from Blackmagic Design: SMPTE 2110
Revolutionary news from Blackmagic Design! Video over IP is the name of the game and the Australian manufacturer is going all-in. For this, they are using the SMPTE 2110 standard is being used. This might sound more complex than it is, because Blackmagic Design has set out to make the complicated easy. To go along with the broadcast expo NAB in Las Vegas, the company has released a large range of products that uses this promising technology and makes it possible.
To put it simple, it is all about transmitting audio and video data in a broadcast standard over a network with no latency to make them visible for all connected devices. This is especially interesting for professional production and broadcasting institutions, the live-event sector, and educational institutions.
The following fascinating products have been introduced at NAB:
SmartView 4K G3
The latest generation of SmartView rackmount monitors (6U) includes the following features
- inputs: SMPTE-2110 IP and 12G-SDI
- slim design for better ventilation
- supports all video standards up to 2160p60
- with Frame Guides, Focus Peaking, and 3D-LUTs for monitoring
The monitor is expected to be shipping in May 2024.
Audio Monitor 12G G3
The latest generation of the Audio Monitor 12G comes with the following features:
- powerful audio monitor with dual subwoofer (1U)
- inputs: 10G Ethernet SMPTE-2110 IP and 12G-SDI
- monitoring options: VU, PPM, loudness
- supports NMOS interfaces
- HDMI-monitoring output
The Audio Monitor 12G is expected to be shipping in June 2024.
Blackmagic Ethernet Switch 360p
This Ethernet Switch is a new addition to Blackmagic Design's portfolio. Its features include:
- designed for the film and TV industry
- 16 independent 10G Ethernet ports for SMPTE-2110 IP Video
- two 100G Ethernet ports for looping
- HDMI monitoring output with live data
The switch is expected to be shipping in July 2024.
2110 IP Converters
Blackmagic Design is introducing a new product family of cost-efficient IP video converters for broadcasting and live productions:
- The Presentation Converter with connections for laptops, projectors and microphones as well as HDMI and SDI outputs, designed for speaker podiums.
Expected to be shipping in May 2024. - Rackmount converters to be included in 12G-SDI environments - bi-directional and with an LCD as well as a control panel.
4x12G variant expected to be shipping in Q2 2024,
8x12G variant expected to be shipping in July 2024. - Mini converters as an affordable option for IP monitoring.
Regular variants expected to be shipping in May 2024,
SFP variants in July 2024.
All these converters use 10G Ethernet for a cheap and easy installation, support the NMOS protocol and video formats up to 2160p60.
