With Proteus Flex 2X Anamorphic, Laowa introduces a unique anamorphic set with user-replaceable flare lenses. The modular design allows each lens in the series to be equipped with four different flare options, making this Proteus series very flexible and economical.
New to the range is Proteus Flex 2X Anamorphic 20mm T2. Thanks to its enormous focal length, this lens allows you to capture both a subject in impressive close-up and its surroundings at the same time. The lens is ideal for dynamic camera movements, conveys impressive spatial depth, and creates an exciting sense of speed - all in a single image. The Proteus 20mm T2 effortlessly captures expansive scenes, even in confined spaces where it is impossible to step back.
Proteus Flex lens consists of a Proteus base body and four flare modules in amber, silver, blue, and clear flare versions. The clear flare variant produces minimal horizontal stray light for DOPs who want a cleaner and more elegant image look. The standard version of these lenses is silver flare.
The flare module can be easily screwed into the Proteus base body and is very easy to replace. The replacement process can be carried out on site within minutes; no optical calibration is required after replacement.
Laowa's professional Proteus Cine lenses impress with their patented anamorphic design. Camera professionals appreciate the smooth, oval bokeh and characteristic flares of these lenses. The constant 2x compression factor guarantees the ultra-wide image format, the standard in the cinema industry.
Image data stored on a 4:3 sensor becomes cinema images with an aspect ratio of 2.66:1 after decompression; data from a 6:5 sensor enables a cinema image format of 2.4:1. Both variants ensure cropping to the ideal aspect ratio of 2.39:1. Laowa Proteus lenses support the S35+ sensor format. They cover the Alexa 35 sensor at a ratio of 2.39:1 and the Red V-Raptor 7K sensor at a ratio of 6:5 ANA.
The large T2 aperture facilitates filming in low light and at night. The open aperture already delivers images with outstanding sharpness and clearly separates objects from their background. These lenses achieve optimal image quality at aperture T4.
The minimum focus distance of this Proteus lens from Laowa is only 48 cm. Thanks to the double compression factor, the bokeh is significantly thinner and longer – a typical feature of anamorphic lenses.
